Wong Chiew at SS2

Wong Chiew Seafood Restaurant is located at the single row of shophouse tucked in the middle of SS2 housing area. This is the quieter part of SS2, behind the Balai Bomba, and near to the school.

Despite the more isolated location, this tai chow place was packed on friday evening! This restaurant actually occupies 3 shop houses but only one has air-conditioning. Prior booking is recommended if you wish to sit at the one with AC.
We had the champagne spare ribs, which was nice and tender but my only complain was the extremely small portion! I think a hungry person could have finished the whole plate of spare ribs by himself, not to mention we have 5 hungry people there!

The Hong Kong choysum fried with garlic was nothing special, of course I didn't expect something extraordinary out of a very ordinary stir-fried vege but I think it was a little bit overcooked.

We also ordered the cheong cheng fish(steamed talapia with bean paste and chilli). The fish was very fresh and steamed until just right to still retain the succulence of the meat. The bean paste sauce was a little salty, but it went well with rice, complemented by the many pork lard crackers. Sinful sinful!

Of course I didn't miss ordering my all time favourite dish in chinese restaurants - Kong Poh Frog with cashew nuts(frog fried with dried chilli). It was pretty awesome but I would prefer it to be even more spicy!

Due to the really mini portion of all dishes, we ordered an extra dish which came last - The homemade Spinach Tofu with minced meat and chai poh. It was a pleasant surprise!

The tofu came in 2 layers of green and light green. In fact it didn't look like tofu at all, it looked like some kind of nyonya kuih! Haha! The tofu was very smooth, light and fluffy, just like eating tau fu fa! I highly recommend this dish.

Total cost for the dinner was RM85 for 5 persons. I think it's pretty good value for a decent tai chau in PJ area.
